Mood Board

This is my mood board, i chose to put these types of images on the mood board because they represent the type of music i am doing for my magazine. The genre of music i chose is rock. All of the pictures i chose revolve around rock icluding the instruments used and the clothes worn. There are all different types of rock on my mood board from Slipknot who are heavy metal to light rock. I chose to have a wide range of rock types on my mood board because my magazine will be about many different types of rock.

NME Front Cover Analysis

This is the mock up for my college magazine front cover, it is better than the original one that i looked at. It is better because instead of having a picture as the masthead it is the name of the school with the main headline underneath. Furthwer down the page is a picture with other less important headlines next to it, underneath the picture it states what the other magaine content is and below that is the schools awards etc. My mock up has better colour and layout which makes it more attractive and appealing.

College Magazine-front cover analysis

This is the front cover for the Deyes High newsletter. During the analysis of this front cover I discovered that it has a poor layout and is boring in its design. The reasons for this are:

• It has no colour
• There is no eye catching images
• The logo is faded
• The layout has no shape
• There is no masthead, instead a picture of the school
• It is exactly the same every month as it is of a house style
• The schools badge is the main front for the cover rather than having a headline or an attention grabbing picture

The reason why the newsletter is boring and plain is because it is more of a information booklet rather than a magazine and is just designed to get the message across to students and more importantly parents or guardians. There is no variation to the newsletter because it is all about the contents and the school printing the newsletter does not view the front cover as being as important as the content.

Introduction and genre

For my coursework I have been asked to make a front cover, contents page and 2 page spread for my own music magazine. The necessary research for this is as follows, i will create a questionnaire which will help me gain knowledge of what people like about music magazines and why, also I will study other music magazines and create a mock up of a college magazine.

My magazine will be a rock magazine. I have chosen this genre because although i listen to alot of different types of music i feel rock is my favourite and the most interesting. Some of my favourite bands/groups include:

• Rise Against
• 30 seconds to Mars
• The White Stripes
• Paramore

Coursework Brief

The brief states that I must produce a front cover of a music magazine, a contents and a double spread on an artist of my choice. Also I have to produce a front page of a college magazine and a mock up of a contents page. All of this including full research has to be completed by 16th April 2010.
